Marija Karan, PhD
Maria M. Karan received her PhD from the Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Arts in Belgrade, in the study program Theory of Art and Media. She defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Musical conception of radio discourse versus audience – types of transformations of mutual relations seen in the interdisciplinary field of media theory” under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tijana Popović Mlađenović in 2019.
She continuously participates in scientific conferences and publishes papers in the field of art theory and (mass) media in proceedings / monographs from domestic and international scientific conferences, as well as in journals of national and international importance.
From October 2019 to April 2021, she was a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade (elective courses Music and Media and Management of Media and Music Production), as well as an associate lecturer at the interdisciplinary master studies Theory of Art and Media at the University of Arts in Belgrade (compulsory subject Introduction to Media Theories).
Marija Karan has been continuously building his professional path in the field of mass media and media theory since 2000. She has worked as: music associate, editor and supervisor on film and television projects, as music director, editor, journalist, author and host of shows on national and city commercial radio stations, assistant director, editor and moderator of the Belgrade Youth Music program, expert associate and columnist of regional music internet portals, music and media consultant, communications coordinator and public relations person.
