Radmila Bakočević
Radmila Bakočević had a compelling international career that began in 1955 and ended with her retirement from the stage in 2004. During her career she sang in nearly all important opera houses around the world, including performing throughout Europe, North America and South America. Strengthen the long-term partnership during his career with two opera houses, such as the National Theatre in Belgrade and Vienna State Opera.
Professor Bakočević sang a wide repertoire that included works from the 17th through the 20th century. She was particularly convincing in depicted Puccini and Verdi’s heroines, as well as in roles in the operas of Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. She also sang in numerous operas by Russian and Czech composers such as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Smetana and Tchaikovsky. Interestingly, she sang only two roles in French operas – the role of Juliette in Jacques Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Marguerite in Charles Gounod’s Faust. Her flexible voice is well suited for singing the works of composers such as Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti.
After the retirement from the scene, Radmila Bakočević worked as a professor of singing at several universities. Currently she is holding the title of professor emeritus the Faculty of Music of University of Arts in Belgrade, where she also worked as rector from 1998 to 2000.
